EN EL PEQUEÑO TALLER DE PARIS- INTO THE SMALL WORKSHOP IN PARIS

Looking at the Rue Saint Honoré cityscape´s painted by Pisarro, you could see how was Paris in 1898
It was the world's most modern city with wide avenues, newly built, with the brand new Tour Eiffel premiered a few years earlier, with the first line of the metro of the city building..

It was the modernism Paris or Art Nouveau Paris if you wish... that young, new, free, modern art, with aesthetic inspired by nature made with industrial iron and glass materials, totally disruptive to the above. Also was the period of positivism, science explains everything, and that was time of development of inventions that marked the 20th century, aviation, automobile, cinema, radio

It was also the time of leisure, with economic development, the reduction of working hours...It was definitely the Belle Époque, as it was recalled later that period of splendour, and believe me, it was worth living in Paris at that time, sharing cafes in Montmartre or evenings at the Folies Bergère, Chat Noir and Moulin Rouge, with Verne, Zola, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Oscar Wilde, the young Picasso...

But while all this was happening, in a small workshop in the suburbs the young Louis worked tirelessly. This small workshop was built a few years earlier in a small shed of the family home. He always felt comfortable among tools, nuts and bolts because he was passionate about mechanics, he was 21 years old and with the little money that he had obtained in military service, he had bought an old tricycle Dion trying to with their knowledge to modify. He managed to add one more wheel and a transmission and got a car of three speeds and reverse. He was euphoric. He had managed to build his own car in a time in which to have one was very difficult. His first impulse was to show his achievement to his family and friends, but he thought it better...

Arrived Christmas Eve party. Guests of Alfred, father of Louis, arrived, as they were also his children Marcel, Fernand, girls... only was missing Louis as always,... He would be in his workshop and would have to go to look for it...

But it wasn´t neccesary. Louis arrived in his brand-new and modern automobile built by himself. He immediately became the center of attention of the party. Unlike other cars of the era, his vehicle perfectly climbing hills, had a very good speed in plain and was also quite silent, without resonant strings. He impressed both friends of his father who immediately received the commissioned to build 24 more cars. Even in their wildest dreams Louis Renault would have thought what had just been born in his small workshop. It was simply the beginning of his own empire.

The Man Who Sold The World.

About the music of this week, we start  with the huge Led Zeppelin´s Kashmir, in a performance in which John Bonham, was replaced by his son Jason. We continue with the inventors of the metal Black Sabbath and their End of The Beginning, with powerful Iommy guitar,s riffs. We will continue with the best Bon Jovi, the 80s, with probably his best song, Wanted Dead or Alive. Then Nirvana and their version of the theme of Bowie, The Man Who Sold The World. Look at your battery because in the last of the videos that I propose, Foo Fighters and The Pretender, you'll see years more late pass of the sticks and to become guitar and vocalist.
Finally, I will recommend Fortress of Alter Bridge and the Metallica´s cover Dyer´s Eve made by Revocation. There is no official videos and why not hang them here, but there are versions on YouTube. It is worth listening to. I leave them in spotify´s list.

DOS MUJERES.- TWO WOMAN

Two women made the same decision. Seek refuge in Holland during the nazi expansion. The two had been mothers of two girls in 1929, Ella in May and Edith in June. It was necessary to protect his creatures and must say that the two mothers managed to protect them enough so that they would remain immortal, although their fates were quite different.

Let's start with Ella, the beautiful Dutch Aristocrat, the Baroness Van Heemstra. Very cultured, it is worried that her daughter had a very good training, including disciplines such as piano and ballet. When she saw that the nazis brought disaster in the form of war, she emigrated as mentioned looking for the neutrality of the land of their ancestors. However Holland was occupied and hardship took over a previously wealthy life. Without food or heating were forced to subsist, selling off their belongings, eating whatever they could, enduring bombings, seeing the deportations of Jews, etc.

Her girl survived nevertheless and all these experiences formed a unique personality. Her beauty and innate sweetness, the ballet training I said before, and received her mother's refined manners, added a  distinction unique. She was also fragile and insecure. The hardships experienced in the war and growing up without a father probably added these features to her way of being. That cocktail of beauty, elegance and gentleness, tenderness and insecurity was Edda Van Heemstra, also known as Audrey Hepburn to court at all, William Wyler, Gregory Peck, Givenchy...

In Wikipedia are nice things about it. When Holland was released and arrived the humanitarian aid, the poor girl took a whole pot of sweetened condensed milk and she almost got sick. Never forgot that aid and therefore overturned with Unicef at the time. When Audrey died, Elizabeth Taylor said that God would be pleased to have beside an angel like her. Tiffanys jewelry, dedicated in addition their showcase. If you are going to New York and going by Fifth Avenue, do not fail to pay homage to her having breakfast there. She certainly deserves it.

Precioso.
Then it was Edith, german, and also Jewish, so from the outset had clear what accounted for the nazis. With her girls and her husband, he sought refuge in Amsterdam, where quickly adapted and began to live small business that her husband rode. Her Little child was growing in relative peace and harmony given the circumstances, developed a boundless imagination. As she loved to write, received as a small treasure the gift she received at the age of fifteen. A beautiful diary. With it, Anna could escape from the tragic situation that befell the family when the older sister cited her at the offices of the S.S, fact that forced all the family to hide in a home cobbled together in the back of the factory of the father. With her diary, she gave us an impressive tale about how was her life during this closure of 25 months, closure that ended with the arrest of the family, and the death of this little girl in Bergen Belsen by typhus, a month short of that this field be released. Good thing maybe about the story is writed by a child, with the capacity of adaptation and survival of children. One day she was depressed because she had no books and the next morning she was happy thinking about the bike ride that she was going to do as soon as she had released. Beautiful.

Anna was fan of cinema, as witnessed by the photos of the stars of the moment that decorate his room in the back house, house that I recommend you visit. It will impress you. She never saw a movie of Audrey. Audrey however can read the diary of Anna-I read it and I destroyed. I have never again be the same - she said. For her it was not a reading, it was to revive what she has been lived by herself.

Both serve this small story as a modest tribute to mothers who protected them as they could, as the daughters.

Algo de música para rematar esta entrada. Hoy va de legendarios. Nos visitan Pink Floyd y su I Wish you were here en directo, del LP Pulse, uno de los mejores en directo de la historia, los Rolling Stones con su Love is Strong,  Lynyrd Skynird y su Simple Man, Bob Dylan y su Tambourine man en una maravillosa actuación en directo en 1964 de gran calidad, y Status Quo y un medley de buen rock increíble. Disfrutad.

VUELTA A LA RUTINA- BACK TO THE ROUTINE

"What I've imagined, others will do it"

Jules Verne

After spending the Christmas holidays,  Dustin has to go back to his life as always. He had no choice. The next day, after breakfast, he would go to his job as always. The day would be clear as usual in him area, go as always to his work always, at the offices of a company responsible for the exploitation of a quarry of basalt, in means of transport provided and when ever. All predictable. All stable. What supposedly had always wanted. And what surely now hated...

He wanted a little adventure, explore unknown places and discover things. In Shackelton city, his city, everything was quiet. He wanted to go to equatorial areas, to the farms of helium 3, visit the mythical buried cities. So, months ago he had requested change of department and moved to the outdoor exploration.

Aun así, no le malinterpretéis. Adoraba Shackelton.
Even so, do not wrong you. He adored Shackelton. It was a modern and functional city with a high standard of living, by exporting its resources from mines surrounding it. Their grandparents had decided to move there 50 years ago looking for new opportunities, and he was grateful for that.

When toasted the new year he had the feeling that this new would be good for him. It was 2169, the year in which the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the first man to the place where we talk would be held. Shackleton region, at the south pole of the Moon.

Probably because in 2169, the anniversary of the arrival of man to the moon will be held from Cities installed there, ready to be not only self-sufficient but to exploit the natural resources that are stored there since the great crash that gave birth to the satellite millions of years ago . We begin by small facilities, perhaps inflatables, in the few areas that receive sunlight in the polar regions, in which he will live like people live today in inhospitable regions on Earth. Then, from the exploitation of natural resources living conditions very similar to the ones here in encapsulated artificial atmospheres cities will be achieved, not only will life support but protected from radiation and meteor showers, with greenhouses and crops plant genetically modified to maximize the use of light. Little by little they will colonize new territories by the massive influx of immigrants from Earth, as they develop communications and transportation. Maybe underground cities are built in the most inhospitable areas in the equatorial zones ..

Nosotros no lo veremos, pero podemos imaginarlo. Intentadlo.
We do not see, but we can imagine. I dont. I leave you with some music to get into the new year.

LA PROMESA.- THE PROMISE

A few days ago I returned from a trip by Belgium, a place I had really wanted to go. In Spain people recommend to see Brussels, Ghent, Bruges... and it´s okay because they are some very interesting sites, but I will incorporate to the recommendation a place maybe less well-known: Ypres in Flandes área.

Ypres is a charming, small town, with people very nice and good food, but those aren´t the reasons for what I recommend...
I will start with the beginning. I landed in Charleroi airport and I was moving to Brussels. I looked for the bus which traveled approximately the 60 km that separated us from the capital and waited for the departure. It was at this time when arrived an elder man and sat beside me. He has a travel guide in English, so I figured that this was him nationality.

I don´t know exactly how but the fact is that we started to talk. He told me that he was from Scotland, and when I said I was Spanish he seemed very happy and tried to speak spanish to me. I have to say he did it well. His second wife was spanish, and he had learned the language. He told me that his name was Desmond, he was 89 years old and he was heading to Brussels Midi station to meet with the youngest of his children to move by train to the region of Ypres to fulfill a promise which he had made to his own father.

And it is that his father was a veteran of the WWI and had been in the trenches that the allies dug in that area of Belgium, in the very hard winter of 1914, that cruel war hell with thousands of deaths for every little inch advanced or retreated, long battles without winners because all of them were losers of the lives of their young , the most valuable thing they had.

Desmond had to fulfill the promise that made his father Henry, as i said before. He has to take part of his ashes to Ypres and deposit it there, on the anniversary of one of the perhaps most shocking facts of that war: the informal armistice occurred in the Christmas of 1914. Desmond told me the following story transmitted to him by his father and I do not think that he cares about I share here.

Imaginaos a Henry allí.
Imagine Henry there. Two and a half meters under the ground between the mud of the southern trench, next to the embankment. He had difficulties to see and breathe because they had had to endure attacks chlorine grenade the previous day. At that time a familiar sound came from the other side, behind the land of nobody, on the German side. It was the Christmas Carol silent night, Sung in German. They were singing it while they decorated a small tree. They ventured to receive a shot, but  nobody really thought about it. In the case of Henry, he could not avoid to cry as what he was in the background, a child. Trench mates were equal, but one of them,  Rankin began to sing the same song in the English version in such a way that, at one point, both sides, each of them in their trenches were singing carols. They ended up leaving the trenches both ones as others, and gathered in this no man's land sown of bodies. They could see the faces of those enemies who had been described to them as monsters, and viewed that they were boys like them. They spoke, they exchanged tobacco, chocolates... Commanders did nothing to prevent it. During 48 hours lead hearts to the heads and peace was achieved and that each side could bury with dignity to their fallen and pay them tribute.

Most of these boys died later, when the war continued, told me desmond with the voice broken by the emotion. I looked through the window trying to imagine those kids fighting for their lives between those trees.

Listening to that story, we were already arriving to Brussels. A man was waiting for Desmond. After saying goodbye to me and wish me luck, I saw how they penetrated into the station and headed to the docks, bound for Ypres. A few days later, I was there, changing my initial plans. Desmond and its history had guilt of that. I will never regret my decision. I arrived at the place where a stone cross commemorates the Christmas informal armistice that Desmond had told me. I couldn´t see him, but I knew he had fulfilled his promise.

Let There be Rock y Hallowed be thy Name.
And that is the meaning of Christmas. I leave you with some music. To start the instrumental quality of Liquid Tension Experiment, essence of Dream Theater, with Rudess, Petrucci and Mike Portnoy impressive battery. Then, we will continue with the wisdom of the masters of metal. Metallica showing how great is Hetfield in live performances, with the powerful Lords of the Summer, AC/DC and Iron Maiden with two classics from his repertoire made to live. Let There be Rock and Hallowed be thy Name. Essentials. Finally the gritty theme Walk of texans Pantera, pioneers of the Groove Metal, with Phil Anselmo at his best momento probably.

¡Feliz Navidad a todos!
Merry Christmas to all!

EL SEUDÓNIMO.- THE PSEUDONYM

"Tri'umph, my Britain, thou hast one to show. To whom all scenes of Europe homage owe.
He was not of an age but for all time!
And all the Muses still were in their prime, When, like Apollo, he came forth to warm
Our ears, or like a Mercury to charm!
Nature herself was proud of his designs and joy'd to wear the dressing of his lines, which were so
richly spun, and woven so fit, as, since, she will vouchsafe no other wit.

Ben Jonson. Elegy to W. Shakespeare.

You could say that Christopher had seen it all, and still he wasn´t 30 years old. Humble origins, playboy, opportunist, adventurer .. and while he was studying at Cambridge had traveled to France and was workes for the queen as a secret agent. His problem is that he lived to the limit and never refused a good brawl  and for that he had created many enemies, and although he was accustomed to legal problems, it had never been so serious as he have to watch right now. He had been accused of treason against the queen, blasphemy, and even sexual misconduct and that was nice very punished in England.

Escribir.
But Christopher had an ace in his sleeve. And it was also a major sponsor at court, accumulated enough information to many people involved, and these reports were prepared for safekeeping arise if something happened to him. That was his pass, and his enemies knew. So they negotiated with him and sought a satisfactory solution. They simulate his death and they would leave England. Thus end up their problems outside of England could start a new life, devoting himself to what at bottom he liked. To write.

And that's how began their exile. He toured France, went to Spain and stayed in Italy as homeland  adoption. He loved its people, its customs, its language, its climate. its food, ..and he failed prevent all these experiences were reflected in his works, immortal works, not abut of all time, because his talent was not of an age but for all as once praised Ben Jonson. Armed with more than 29000 words, arguably reached the confines of language, which until then had not done that since it could not be repeated.

What is worse to Christopher? May not be able to sign their works. Remember that he was officially dead. Fortunately, his protector in England had sought the ideal man to sign his works . He was the son of a glove maker with unequal fortune, with legal troubles, who had been forced to accept the deal, a deal which saw the success of the time, never repented. That pact wiped out Christopher Marlowe, born possibly the most important figure in world literature, William Shakespeare.

And this is one of the theories that I like of which there are about the authorship of Shakespeare's plays. I am not saying it's true, but those who defend it, considered strange that someone with almost no studies as the bard, not travels also known, which is not retained any writing, write those works. All this however fit with the figure of Marlowe, with many more studies and life skills. It is also strange that being of the same age, at age 29 and Marlowe had a wide literary and Shakespeare was unprecedented and that it works appeared just after the supposed death of him. It's like William, inspiration will arise suddenly from Marlowe's death.

Let´s deep in these theories, they are curious ..

Some music to finish. Have a nice week!

Henry F.Amiel (1821-1881). Escritor suizo.

Do with ease what is difficult to others, here is the sign of talent. Do what is impossible to talent, here is the sign of genius".

Henry F.Amiel (1821-1881). Swiss writer.

I always pay attention to the sensations that people lives in the bleachers of the Bernabeu. This is the first year in which I go regularly and I cannot help but be aware of everything that happens. The other day there was a detail that brought back memories and a reflection that allow me to share with you. The move came in the band. Marcelo received making a control with the left leg and before the arrival of the rival made him a wonderful move. Crowd made an Ohh! of admiration. I had already hearing this expression sometimes; I remember especially the roulette and controls with both legs that made Zidane, for example. All that I love, but doesn't impress me... It may sound to sacrilege but it is the truth...

I, those technical details, had already seen them in my neighborhood, in the football that we played in parking areas with goals made by stones, jackets and backpacks. It wasn't like now that there are fields everywhere and children arrive in their parents´s car as mini-stars with coloured boots, whispering covering his mouth and do theater when the opponent touches them seeking to deceive the referee. We walked down the street, did the teams at the time, rarely had the same number of players on each team and began to play games that sometimes lasted two hours or more, bad players as a defense or goalkeepers,..., no changes because no one wanted to change, referees ourselves, arguing whether it was or not gol... with sports boots cheap that you had to care because your mother was always complained because she doesn´t have enough money to buy shoes or trousers knee pads every month...

When you stand out a bit, you began to play for some team that played city leagues of neighborhood and there, you begin to play seriously, you trained, you were allocated in a position in field and learned some tactics. It happened to me and thanks to this I remember one of the best players I've ever seen. They called him "Cruyff" and it was wonderful when he was fourteen years old. He played middle center in advance, sometimes as a forward. He controlled the ball perfectly with both legs. He had an unpredictable dry movement, which allowed him to escape both sides and a very powerful right shot. Their long displacements were huge and head it was not wrong. Vision incredible of the game. To give you an idea, he plays like Iván de la Peña, immense player, one of the very best I've ever seen. Everything that I have seen doing professionals, I saw doing themselves, including goals direct from the corner,... This kid should have come to the elite, but his wrong head prevented him. Dysfunctional family, bad company and bad decisions made him falling into drugs and hence ended everything for it. His body and his life were laid to lose...

Ganamos gracias a él tres ligas seguidas. ¡ Esos años fuimos grandes Cruyff..! recuérdalo siempre
I don´t know what happened to him, but if he ever read this, I'd love him to know that many of us remember him in the field, distributing game and getting goals. We won thanks to him three consecutive leagues. Those years were great Cruyff..! always remember that!

And this homage to the secundary Cruyff in my neighborhood I would like to the real Cruyff , Johan, great player and character. Everything that is Holland and Barcelona in soccer is due to him. I hope he overcomes him disease.

Some powerful music..See you next week!

CRIMEN SIN CASTIGO.- CRIME WITHOUT PUNISHMENT

"Uncertain is the place where death awaits you; wait for it, everywhere"

Seneca

It was a Tuesday when Robert Paul, as every day, was on his way to work. He works early in the morning and was forced to walk the deserted streets of London's East End at such odd hours. It was late, so he was looking at the clock and its inexorable advance while walking as fast as he could. It was then when taking the street Buck´s Row, he saw a lump on the ground. He came and saw an unconscious woman. -Another drunk prostitute!. -He thought as he approached.

When he came to help her, one man, another worker who was headed to his post went out of a dark alley and came to be interested. Robert asked him to help him move the body, to remove it from the street, but the unknown man wisely told him: - better not move her, let´s search the police - It seemed a good idea to Robert, and went to find any agent.

Paul never knew it, but he just met Jack the Ripper and he had not caught him killing him victim for a few minutes.

And it is that we were in August 1888 in the place in which the prostitute Polly Nichols was murdered. According to the latest investigations, while the criminal was his grisly work, he heard steps, was forced to interrupt its task, covered the remains of the body with the own clothes of the victim and since he could not escape without being seen chose to hide in a corner and when the pedestrian, Robert Paul approached, he turned to approach too pretending to be interested. Obviously wanted to avoid moving the body, because he didn't want Paul see how it was after he slashed her. When he saw in a newspaper how Paul talk about him in an interview, he had enough cold blood to approaching police, identified as the witness Charles Allen Cross.

It is now in the 21st century when one has been able to analyze just such Cross. Carter from a store of meat with night work and with clear signs of psychopathy. All the crimes occurred in areas very close to his journey to work and the hours in which did. His work was used to seeing gutting animals and spotting of blood. It is not known for certain that Cross was Jack the Ripper, but if anyone had come to investigate properly, he would have been the prime suspect. But the fact is that he was never tried and died of old man in the town where he was born, surrounded by grandchildren. There wasn´t justice for the victims.

Os dejo con algo de música. Disfrutadla
I leave you with some music. Enjoy it!
