"When you go through the forest, don't make noise. The Menk wouldn´t  like it and it may be the last thing you do"

Seeing those old photos of the Leica camera almost 50 years later, Yuri recalled that never had felt as frustrated as that day in January 1959 in which he had been forced to abandon the expedition that had so excited him; that had prepared, that would introduce him and his friends in those unknown and mysterious territories in so few people had been before. Monte Otorten in the Urals are waiting for them. However already on the train road to Ivdel, he had started to feel wrong and when he took the truck to Vizhai, starting point of the expedition, the symptoms are exacerbated with fever. Long walks on snow withstanding temperatures of up to-30 ° isn´t for anyone sick, nor for any group that had to take care of someone sick. Resigned had been separated from his friends and it had been prepared to go back to Yekaterinburg.

Reliving those moments, Yuri recalled as the "mansi", tribes of reindeer herders who lived in those desolate territories, had warned them of not entering in these remote areas. There were their sacred territories, its mountains of the dead; there were areas in which they rarely ventured and never at night, there were areas in which animals appeared dead and disappeared persons. They were the domains of a creature of the underworld known as Menk, the Yeti in the area, a rare kind of hominid over two meters, terrible predator able to even break the neck a bear with his bare hands, as people  said; a being that was announced with a faint whistle shocking making stop all the sounds of the forest. The best that people could do when that sound is heard was flee or hide.

Some members of the expedition had felt rather scared, but both Yuri, as Igor, like any other, had reassured them saying that it were not more than a legend. Perhaps that is the reason why he were still just as guilty. He had convinced them, he hasn´t been able to go by his flu and now him friends were all dead and mutilated, frozen in their underwear in the snow; one without eyes, another without tongue, fractured skulls, signs of struggle, all just a few metres from the tents where his belongings had been abandoned. The old camera had been witness to everything but failed to register what happened that last infernal night.

-I did not deserve to have saved more than the others-, has thought Yuri. And he thought it until 2013 when already elder died without knowing what had actually taken place with his friends.

This small story is based on the so-called case Dyatlov in honor of the guide and leader of the group. I would recommend that will deepen in the history and especially that you see the photos. In the initial few young mountaineers are arranged between jokes and games to start their expedition. In the end they are concerned, shot and maybe scared, such as fleeing. As anyone  know what has happened, emerged multiple theories and legends. The only thing certain is that the relief expedition found the tents ripped on the inside, as if the mountaineers, who were experts, had left scared without worrying about or to open the door, or step into the boots, or picking up the clothing. Something caused a panic so atrocious that made them act as well, and seeing how they were found dead after, the panic seemed more than justified.

"Friends: a family whose members are chosen at will."

Taking a last look at the room, Jesus remembered wistfully that first day of arrival at the pension of the General Peron street. He carried the basics in the suitcase, thinking they would go to his sister's house to get the rest if he liked what he saw. Since for work had come to Madrid, he had stayed at newly married sister´s house, but when she became a mother he had no place there. So he had accepted the offer of his friend Ignacio to move in with him to the central pension in wich he occupaid.

His story and that of Ignacio were parallel. They had excelled in his profession in his native Navarra and so, two leading companies had decided to hire their services. These companies are engaged in the same and made tough competition, which somehow made them rivals, but they never cared about it. They defend to death the interests of their companies, but their friendship forged in early childhood, in those evenings ballgame and several raids in the Roncal Valley, prevailed over all.

It was curious to see them leave each morning the pension, say goodbay, and take one north to his work and the other south to his. They stayed several years, but as everything has an end, now Jesus married and had to be separated. Ignacio continued some time in the pension, but nothing was the same.

Ignacio was Ignacio Zoco, and his company was Real Madrid. Jesus was Jesús Glaría and his company was Atletico de Madrid. They competed many years defending their colors. Their duels in midfield in those derbies in which who won were invited to dinner, were epic; as that 0-0 that must have been 4-4 in the Bernabéu Stadium, where they left embraced their partner Adelardo who had just lost his father and was facing from the field to the empty father´s seat in the stands.

They also competed in the Spanish team. They occupied the same position, and only can play one of them. None of this affected either a friendship that was like that evening shadow that grows as the day progresses.

Ahora los dos han fallecido. Puede que compartan pensión también allá arriba.
Now the two have died. Maybe they share pension up there.

Bonita historia.

EL MURO.- THE WALL

Freedom, Sancho, is one of the most precious gifts that men gave the heavens; It can not match the treasures that surround the Earth and the sea. For freedom, as well as for the honour, you can and should venture life."

Peter was nervous but determined. Helmut was with him. His sister was expected also to the other side. There was no choice. According to the moments seemed that the mission to perform was or impossible, or easy, or the intermediate range. -It must be the nerves - he thought.

Not to raise suspicions, they had not said goodbye of its coworkers the previous day and had spent the whole night in the old carpentry next to the area of the death. Only there was a moment to try the jump, and it was when the guard has passed and they were not doing it again in ten minutes. They were trusting that the police officers of the towers were relaxed and  react late so that they had time to give the jump. One was mentioning that there were mines. Better not to think about it.

- The time has come- they jumped the first fence and ran, Peter saw as Helmut ran in front of him; never thought that he might run as well. He heard a "halt" and started the shooting. Helmut won jump. When Peter was at the top of the wall, but  a few centimeters of the freedom he felt a sharp pain in the pelvis and saw the blood spurting out. Forces abandoned him and fell back from the side of the wall from which he came, which represented the tyranny and the irrational, that of the shame ... And there he stayed at the age of 18.

-Helmut had succeeded. For statistics Peter remained the third victim because Ida and Rudolf had preceded him. They did not survive trying to jump from a window to the west side at times of the construction of the wall.

No perduraría-, dijo Orwell. Tuvo razón. En 1989 el muro fue derribado.
- It is impossible to establish a civilization on the fear, the hate and the cruelty. It would not last - said Orwell. He was right. In 1989 the wall was demolished.

EL RAYO VERDE- THE GREEN FLASH

(Julio Verne.- El Rayo Verde).

-Good morning Uncle Sam- she said.- Good morning, dear daughter.-How's it going, Uncle Sib?- Great.- Helena- said Sam, - we have to agree with you on something that interests you.-¿Agree with me? what is it that you have contrived, uncles -? Asked Helena Campbell, looking at them.I think you know a young man named Aristobulos Ursiclos ...Yes, I know him-¿Do you dislike him?Why would I dislike him, Uncle Sam?- So do you like him?- Why would I like him, Uncle Sib?

'Well, my brother and I after several reflections have thought to recommend him as a husband.- Marry?  Me -? Helena Campbell said, bursting into laughter, which echoed in the four walls of the hall- Do not you want to marry? Sam asked-. -but.. never? Sib said.-Never, never before I have seen ...-What? -they exclaimed .- Until I've seen the green flash.

 (Julius Verne.- The Green Flash)

This story of Jules Verne was inspired by an ancient legend of the Scottish Highlands. If a person is able to see that lightning, last gleam of the sun after sunset, never go wrong in matters of the heart. It is very difficult to see this weather phenomenon, because it needs special atmospheric conditions and a very good place to see it. On account of Verne, the main character Helena Campbell, in love with the the legends of his country, Rob Roy and Diana Vernon, Flora McIvor, Robert Bruce and William Wallace, refuses to marry until seeing the lightning, because it will help her to choose her ideal companion. Searching it, she will begin numerous adventures across Scotland, embarking on it her  two uncles. They only want to see her married with the candidate they have chosen for her.
Leaving aside the legendand the tale, the green flash is not a myth; it exists and there are some photos on the internet. I don´t know if all are true, but there are some spectacular one.

There are people that it seems to have met this wonderful Green flash. Let me introduce you to two couples:

The first one is formed by Ian and Larissa Murphy. This couple, like many others, met in college. They decided almost immediately to marry  but, fatally, one day, going to work, a part-time which meant paid wedding, Ian suffered a car accident that left severe and permanent brain damage . Larissa immediately moved to live with him in his parents' house. When after much care and effort, they got to communicate minimally, and they decided to go ahead with the marriage. Given the state of Ian, they had to seek permission from the judge who granted it saying.. "You exemplify the total love I think your marriage will benefit not only to you but to the whole community.  I hope everyone in the city to see what which is the love of others."

The second is formed by photographer Angelo Merendino and his wife Jennifer who was diagnosed with an incurable breast cancer. Given the irreversibility of the problem, they wanted to enjoy to the maximum of what they left together. They photographed his best moments, being also portrayed the terrible ravages of the disease. In these photographs can be seen that, although the disease was getting forward, in no case it could end up with either the love nor the optimism of the couple. The report, which was to be a family keepsake for Angelo, became a viral phenomenon when at the request of Jennifer, was published on internet. Shortly after she died.

A sentence attributed to Tim Robbins says something like current superheroes are people without any superpower. Larissa and Angelo are examples. This people, as the green ray, are very difficult to find. I think they themselves are the green flash.

REY ARTURO- KING ARTHUR

Paulo Coelho

"The possibility of realizing a dream is what makes life interesting"
 Paulo Coelho

Was there really King Arthur? The truth is there are many doubts. It seems that in the eleventh century, almost 600 years after the monarch's death, the monks of Glastonbury Abbey in Sommerset, 45 km from Bristol, who had found a tomb inside human remains and a cross lead, in which the inscription reading "here lies King Arthur" and as such it documented in writings of the time. Glastonbury, therefore, was the Avalon Legends, where Arthur died. But as these remains, together with the abbey itself disappeared when Henry VIII ordered the destruction, there is no tangible proof of the existence of that king. The majority opinion among historians is that it simply is a legendary carácter.

A British architect was fascinated by the legend and raised aimed at verifying its historical base. His name was Frederick Bligh-Bond. From the scanty remains of the ancient abbey and its huge mathematical knowledge, he sought codes governing the proportions of buildings. That could produce a rough map of how they could have been located in the sixth century. The calculations proved accurate and when it started to dig new remains of the abbey and all buildings were found, even small traces of the marble tomb supposedly; but unfortunately nothing was found illustrious occupant, so Bligh, frustrated, sought alternatives. And he found in the occult, the paranormal, a subject so popular in the early twentieth century. He invoked through a medium to the spirits of those monks and they were telling him where to dig. With these methods so unorthodox had new achievements, such as finding an older below the abbey chapel. No one knew of its existence. There would surely be the coveted remains, it may be that even the Holy Grail of the legend also says that he was brought there by Joseph of Arimathea; but he could not tell, as their psychic methods were not accepted and the authorities prevented the researcher continued. The rest of his life was spent trying to get permission again unsuccessfully. He died in 1945.
In 1908, while Bligh-Bond was directing the excavation in Glastonbury, a boy of eight years wandering around. This child-it named Arthur Ralegh Radford and at that time had already decided to be an archaeologist. And it ended up being. And the legend of King Arthur seduced him too. As it was difficult to re-dig Glastonbury, she began by looking at the supposed birthplace of Arthur at Tintagel in Cornwall. According to legend, Arthur's father, Uther Pendragon was in love with the Countess of Cornwall. Count aware of its purpose, took her to a secluded place, Tintagel, in which he secluded himself impregnable castle. How did meet with his beloved Pendragon ?. The only way possible. The magician Merlin the bewitched to be like the Conde and so could move smoothly once the Count of truth was absent from the castle. So Arthur was conceived. Well, Radford excavated on the island and ended up finding the old city in the sixth century in which the events took place, something that historians doubted it existed. But unfortunately he did not find any reference to the character. Later he went to Glastonbury in search of the tomb after years of work and found one that met the requirements of location and age, but neither contained the remains of Arthur. He continued to work tirelessly until almost the end of his days. When almost 90 years and was still asked to bring him to see the ruins. He died in 1998.

None of the characters managed to fulfill his dream but that's not important. I think more and more that the search and the discovery is what makes life interesting.

FRIDA Y DIEGO

Acid and tender, hard as steel and delicate and fine as a butterfly's wing. Adorable as a beautiful smile and deep and cruel as the bitterness of life. "

Diego Rivera describing Frida Kahlo

Does this sentence describes the true love?. Sure, but perhaps more than true love we should speak about extreme love, that love that joins the pain and the love, a love  that can only emerge in stormy relationships, relationships like that was kept by these two great Mexican paintersrelated them like an elephant and a dove, for their physical similarity.
During their marriage they had numerous infidelities. Diego had a lot of lovers, including Frida´s sister, as people said. Frida had lovers of both genres. There´s nothing sadder than an empty bed, she used to say. Trotsky can´t resist her atraction either.
Frida siempre me fascinó.
Frida always fascinated me. She is one of those characters whose genius is not understandable without the misfortunes of her life. A miserable earthly existence is the Price she had to pay for immortality, because her art was a direct result of the way she faced her external and internal conflicts. The life squeezed her to the máximum and the result was her work.

After visiting New York and know the Rossi´s record store, story already told, I moved to the North. The organized trip that i had hired by Canada wasn´t going precisely well. So, I decided to take advantage of the displacements and hotels, but make the visits on my own. And the story I'm going to tell happened in Quebec

I left early for the old town of the city, the Vieux Port. He had about five kilometers and I decided to walk. After passing through the areas of the so-called Plains of Abraham, green plain scene of many battles between English and French for the domain of the city, start the old, sinuous, colorful and bustling streets that you move suddenly to the old Europe of the 18th century. Amazing. After taking an Icecapp (ice-blended coffee cappuccino) in a Tim Hortons and pass the ancient wall(striking element in an American City), I enjoyed wandering through old Quebec: downtown with its winding cobbled streets, its French-style houses, their markets and restaurants, and the part with the impressive Frontenac castle on the cliffs of Cap Diamant , overlooking the stunning and immense St. Lawrence River.

A mexican guy who had met in Toronto had recommended me to try the steak of bison before leaving Canada. In Quebec there was a site that prepared them something similar to Spanish style. It is a special meat that has protein and flavor of cow, but the calories of chicken. I was in need of a good meal after several days in the country and went to the place. There were enough people and I had to wait for a while, so that I went to have a beer while I was waiting. Once they had put one pint of Molson, typical Canadian beer, a girl on the other side of the bar told me that I had not made a good choice. For her the best beer to taste in Canada, particularly in Quebec, was a called Trois Pistoles. Described it me as a powerful beer from the point of view of alcoholic, 9 degrees, dense and maltose with a dark brown heat and smell of dried fruit and caramel. It goes perfectly for the hard winters in the area, six months more than 10 below zero.

The girl was 28 years old and she came from Iowa. She has arrived from Ottawa and wants to go to Montreal to the Rock Festival to see mainly Korn, Faith No More and Slipknot. Not very high blonde, not especially beautiful, but she was very attractive to me. Her innocent appearance contrasted with the shirt of Metallica´s Kill'em all, something large to her. The combination was more than suggestive. She told me that it was called Pam. I told her that it took note of the beer recommendation and that I invited her to eat. To my surprise, she agreed.

The conversation focused about life in Canada, USA and Spain. Hard living hers. Family problems since childhood, the poverty of the surroundings, its conflicted character and bad companies had led it to live on the streets, these streets of Detroit where these girls life expectancy does not extend beyond 6 months. Prostitution and the addition to the crack was taken to the prison from where thanks to a programme of rehabilitation and after spending two years with probation managed to escape. It was restored but it should be subject to regular checks and in fact get out of USA not had found it easy. After eating, we went back to walk  through the old streets moistened by a storm that had fallen while we ate. We went to the other side of the St. Lawrence river to visit the village of Levy, with its typical houses. There was a jazz festival and we hear some songs before return to Quebec again. We had to run to avoid losing it.

We also went to see the Indian reserve of the Hurons, Amerindian people in the area who called their territory Kanata (Canada) about 15 km away and, when we were back, we finish the day just sitting on the wall talking about heavy music, and in particular groups of his land, mainly Slipknot and Stone Sour. We agreed that we liked Stone Sour more, although they were less spectacular, above all for the quality of its guitarists in particular Jim Root, spectacular with him two meters high, and the rhythmic base so strongly that they gives to their compositions.

After visiting a couple of locals and taste with great pleasure the beers "Trois-pistoles", it was time to go back to the hotel. The next day i had to go with the group of which i had been separated, toward Montreal. On the way to the bus 800 that took me to the hotel, and following speaking of music, Pam told me that for her Stone Sour were a mixture of Metallica and Soundgarden and the result of the mixture was great. For me they are something like Foo Fighters but more powerful, but I didn´t say nothing because, as I said, she wore the shirt of Metallica and by these curious things of destiny, this day I was wearing a Soundgarden t-shirt ...
