I love going to the pool. Swimming allows me to unwind from stressful work computer and telephone that I have, and in addition to this mental benefit, the fundamental, allow me to make a kind of full, healthy exercise, with relatively low risk of injury ..; a type of exercise that allows you both leave blank mind and the imagination to new ideas and new projects, and where everything ends after 40 minutes or one hour, one is a new man, changed by physical fatigue stress, pleasurable endorphins take over and life becomes easier.
Normalmente, es en estos momentos en el agua cuando me planteo el tema de las entradas a hacer en el blog y, la última que se me ocurrió, hace un par de semanas o así, fue recopilar junto a mis compañeros aquellas actuaciones en vivo que más nos habían impactado; para ello contacté con ellos vía wasapp y nos emplazamos para poner en común las conclusiones alcanzadas. Había una serie de reglas a cumplir. Cada uno de los cuatro debía elegir un máximo de 3 canciones en un plazo de una semana, comunicárselo a los demás, y trabajar una pequeña explicación del motivo de la elección para fomentar un poco el debate. El plazo se alargó un poco más de la cuenta, se propusieron más canciones de los tres previstos como suele pasar cuando te pones a buscar, pero por fin, este sábado pasado nos pudimos reunir.

Día frío pero soleado en Madrid, típico de diciembre. Ambiente navideño con el olor y el color que tiene la calle esos días. Cogí mi bici y me dirigí al punto de encuentro.
Fui el último en llegar. Yo siempre digo que soy super puntual porque llego siempre 10 minutos tarde, ¡ni 5 ni 15!. Perdonad el chiste. La cafetería librería del barrio de las letras a la que vamos tenía gente, sobretodo turistas a los que la decoración retro del lugar atraía y las tostadas con aceite de oliva y tomate fidelizaba. Afortunadamente se podía estar perfectamente en nuestro sitio favorito frente a la ventana, con vistas a una calle que, sin ser peatonal, tenía muy poco tráfico. Una típica callejuela antigua de Madrid.

Allí estaba Rafa, tomando una cerveza 00. Como tío sano que es se había levantado, había corrido 7 km, había comprado el pan, había sacado al perro y había llegado andando porque vivía a dos pasos. Estaba hablando de fútbol con Carlos, quién, si no fuera por el chándal, pareciera que había juntado la noche con el día. Luego nos contó que había salido el viernes con unos amigos pero que se había retirado pronto porque tenía partido a las 9; jugaba como portero de fútbol sala en la liga del ayuntamiento o algo así. Decía que estaba hecho polvo, y que se hubiera ido a casa si no fuera porque se había comprometido con nosotros, pero allí estaba con su tercio de Mahou. Yo siempre he sospechado que lo que más le gusta de los partidos es este "tercer tiempo" en el bar, porque sea cual sea la hora a la que acabe el partido, allá que va. Al fondo estaban algunos de sus compañeros de equipo comentando fallos y aciertos; por el resultado que luego me dijeron, entiendo que más bien fallos.

Comenzó Rafa y como me sospechaba empezó a hablar de clásicos, si bien me sorprendió con alguna de sus elecciones -mi primera recomendación es de "los zepelines"- es como solía llamar a Led Zeppelin. - he escogido una versión moderna de "Kashmir". Me gusta porque en la formación aparece el hijo del batería original que viene a ocupar el hueco dejado por su padre, en un tema en el que, precisamente el riff rítmico tan característico que lo define lo había creado éste.
Según he leido, John Bonham murió por una excesiva ingesta de alcohol en casa de Jimmy Page cuando sólo tenía 32 años . Su muerte precipitó el fin de la banda al ser considerado insustituible. Pues bien más de 30 años más tarde se reúne el grupo al completo superando supuestas tensiones entre Robert Plant y Jimmy Page y al fallecido le sustituye su hijo Jason. Puede que no tenga el nivel del padre, que fue ante todo un innovador, pero a la canción le da un toque actual que me gusta.

- Pero no sólo es la voz-intervino Carlos. - Es el dominio de la misma. Tu puedes tener un Stradivarius y no saber usarlo. Este hombre lo tenía y además lo sabía usar como si fuera Paganini. Ese es el secreto.
I will continue with QUEEN. One of the most historically recognized is the concert at Wembley in 1986. It could highlight many songs but I prefer "Now I'm here" and for a gift "Love of my life". - Es verdad que este concierto es alucinante. tengo el vinilo de mi hermano y no me canso de oirlo- dijo Nuria -después lo he visto íntegro en youtube y aún es mejor. hay pasajes en los que se enfoca a gente de la primera fila, se les ve las caras y yo me los imagino ahora, casi 30 años después viéndose y contándole a sus hijos e incluso nietos que ellos estuvieron ahí en uno de los más grandes conciertos de la historia, que durante un par de horas estuvieron en el mismo lugar respirando el mismo aire que Queen, que vieron posiblemente al mejor cantante..., no se tiene que ser una pasada..

I have the vinyl of my brother and I never be tired of hear it- Nuria said -after I've seen full on youtube and is even better. there are passages in which we can see people from the first row, I can imagine them, almost 30 years after seeing and telling their children and even grandchildren that they were there at one of the biggest concerts in history, for two hours they were at the same place, breathing the same air than QUEEN looking at possibly the best singer, will not be a past ..

Ahora pierden además a Malcolm Young por su enfermedad y a Phil Rudd por temas legales, aunque esta última pérdida es más fácilmente subsanable. Han tenido otros bateristas ya antes..Siguiendo con Bon Scott, decir que era bastante mejor vocalista que el actual y con un carisma especial. - Pues bien, otro de los grandes en directo es IRON MAIDEN. Me ha gustado mucho siempre una actuación en Río de Janeiro. El tema es "the Clansman".

- Yo recomendaría "Hallowed be thy name" en la versión de 1985 del que luego sería el lp directo "live after death" y como siempre destacar el trabajo del bajista Steve Harris. Toca siempre sin púa y da un sonido muy especial, menos técnico y más denso, con más cuerpo.

Intervino Nuria. - La mejor voz del hard rock al menos actual. Además es de los tipos más carismáticos. En directo es una pasada. Me pasé todo el concierto mirándole a pesar de los aspavientos del batería que no me acuerdo como se llama.- Lars Ulrich- apostilló Carlos.
- Eso- Aún así el tema a incluir por mí y aprovecho para colarlo es "Nothing Else Matters" con la orquesta de San Francisco. Impresionante la voz de Hetfield

Hay temazos aparte de ese disco como "Orion", "Fade to Black", "One", etc, pero como ese disco, para mí ninguno, Que me decís de "enter sandman" o el para mí mejor tema de Metallica "the Unforgiven".
¿y tú Nuri? A parte del "Nothing else matters" ¿que nos traes?- dije ante las nuevas cervezas que llegaban. - Pues bien, tengo a los más creativos y más espectaculares en directo que hay actualmente-sonrió-, MUSE. Os cuento: Concierto en el Olímpico de Roma. Grandioso escenario. Más de 50.000 almas entregadas. Temas enlazados: Follow me y Madness. Genialidad en estado puro de Matt Bellamy. Vedlo y disfrutad:

Llegados a este punto, Nuria me recordó uno de los dos conciertos de Muse a los que asistimos. El de Barcelona de 2013 equivalente al del vídeo en Roma: ¿te acuerdas Pepe del fin de semana de Barcelona?.- Perfectamente- dije yo- fue un viernes de junio , perdimos por 1 minuto el AVE y después de llegar a la estación, búsqueda del hotel pensión con encanto y llegada a Montjuich en taxi cuando ya había sonado la primera canción. Nos tuvimos que poner atrás pero disfrutamos a tope del espectáculo de luz, sonido, color, imágenes.. -Casi mejor que si nos hubiéramos puesto delante-dijo ella. -Pues sí, - admití- La verdad es que el fin de semana fue perfecto. Concierto, paseos por la ciudad, comida en la playa con amigos..-

Durante unos segundos, Bono canta parte de la primera canción mientras ya está sonando la segunda en la guitarra de The Edge. El escenario también impresiona. Los jardines del castillo de Slane en Irlanda (datado en 1785) forman una especie de anfiteatro natural y generan un marco incomparable. ¡Que lo disfrutéis!

The grounds of Slane Castle in Ireland (dating from 1785) form a sort of natural amphitheater and create a unique setting. Enjoy it!

Después de Nuria me tocaba a mí. Ante la espectacularidad de Muse no pude por menos de empezar por los que me parecía habían sido la inspiración de estos en cuanto a sus directos. Empecé por ahí:
- Hace aproximadamente 20 años PINK FLOYD sacó el LP directo PULSE. En el tema que voy a recomendar, "Confortably Numb" ("cómodamente adormecido"), original de 1979 para el disco "The Wall", hay una cosa muy llamativa. Frente a otros conciertos en los que la gente está hiperactiva, saltando, cantando, etc, en este la gente está deslumbrada y casi no se mueve. Pero no como en el de Deep Purple de Rafa, en el que da la sensación que han llenado la grada con gente que no sabe ni a que viene, sino que aquí están alucinando, es como si estuvieran viendo el aterrizaje de un ovni o algo así. No quieren perderse nada de lo que está pasando. Para mí es una pasada.

Confortably numb- PINK FLOYD
After Nuria was my turn. Given the spectacular Muse I could not help but start by which I thought had been the inspiration of these in their direct. I started out there:
- About 20 years ago PINK FLOYD PULSE took direct LP. The song i will recommend, "Comfortably Numb", original 1979 for the album "The Wall", there is a very striking thing. Compared to other concerts where people are overactive, jumping, singing, etc, in this, people are dazzled and hardly moves. But not as in Deep Purple, which it seems that they have filled the stands with people who know neither coming. Here people are hallucinating, as if they were watching the landing of a UFO or something like that. Do not want to miss anything of what is happening. For me it is amazing.
- The guitar solo is pretty good- i continued. . For many it is considered the best of Gilmour in Pink Floyd, and it,s between the better ever made for magazines such as "Guitar World"
-El siguiente que recomendaré es el de uno de mis guitarristas favoritos recientemente fallecido en Estepona de un ataque al corazón. El ex de Thin Lizzy y otros: Gary Moore. "The Messiah will come again". Es opuesto al anterior. Aquí no hay más que un hombre y su guitarra. Inspiración y calidad técnica. Hay varias versiones, pero de las que he oído me quedo con una de las que sonaron en los años 90 en Montreux (Suiza) en su festival de jazz. No tengo claro el año concreto pero creo que en el mismo 1990. Lo que sí tengo claro es que la guitarra fue hecha para sonar así.
The Messiah Will Come Again- GARY MOORE
-Next I recommend is one of my favorite guitarists died recently of a heart attack in estepona (Málaga-Spain). Former Thin Lizzy and others: Gary Moore. "The Messiah will come again". Is opposite to the above. Here there are just a man and his guitar. Inspiration and technical quality. There are several versions, but which I heard I prefer one that sounded in the 90s in Montreux (Switzerland) in its jazz festival. I am not clear the particular year but I think in the same 1990. What I do know is that the guitar was made to sound this way.
Para finalizar me iría al rock sureño de BLACK CROWES y su "Thorn in my Pride". El tema es muy bueno en sí mismo pero además le añaden un sólo de armónica y banjo en la parte central impresionante. La voz de Chris Robinson junto con los coros de voces "negras" también son para destacar. Los directos encontrados no se oyen especialmente bien así que incorporo la versión en estudio.
Finally I would go to southern rock BLACK CROWES and "Thorn in my Pride". The theme is very good in itself but also adds a harmonica and banjo impressives. Chris Robinson's voice along with the chorus of "black" voices are also to highlight. Live performances i found have problems of sound. I bring studio version.

Además, ya que la anterior no era en directo, traigo el grandísimo "Sultans of Swing" en la versión "Alchemy" de los británicos DIRE STRAITS, banda emblemática de Mark Knopfler. En esta canción de finales de los 70, se narra la historia de un grupo que toca en un pequeño pub con un público escaso pero entregado, quizá la propia historia de este grupo, a la larga uno de los grandes pero que empezaron pasando apuros (apuros o estrecheces económicas es el significado aproximado de la expresión DIRE STRAITS en castellano).

Ya se irán incorporando en futuras ediciones. En la lista de spotify incluyo algunos de ellos.
And thus ended the party, between Christmas greetings and good wishes for the new year. Logically they were many songs in the pipeline. -To finish my election, U2 and "All I Want Is You" followed by "Where the Streets Have No Name" in 2005. In addition to the fantastic of this themes, it´s awesome how they link one to each other. For a few seconds, Bono sings part of the first song while The Edge is already playing the second. The scenario also impresses. The grounds of Slane Castle in Ireland (dating from 1785) form a sort of natural amphitheater and create a unique setting. Enjoy it!

- Hace aproximadamente 20 años PINK FLOYD sacó el LP directo PULSE. En el tema que voy a recomendar, "Confortably Numb" ("cómodamente adormecido"), original de 1979 para el disco "The Wall", hay una cosa muy llamativa. Frente a otros conciertos en los que la gente está hiperactiva, saltando, cantando, etc, en este la gente está deslumbrada y casi no se mueve. Pero no como en el de Deep Purple de Rafa, en el que da la sensación que han llenado la grada con gente que no sabe ni a que viene, sino que aquí están alucinando, es como si estuvieran viendo el aterrizaje de un ovni o algo así. No quieren perderse nada de lo que está pasando. Para mí es una pasada.
