El siguiente viaje de John Antic le trasladó al 01-03-1980 en Freemantle, cerca de Perth, localidad australiana de la que era oriundo Scott. Tras los funerales y meditar mucho sobre la continuidad de la banda, deciden hacerlo y comienza la búsqueda de un nuevo vocalista.Tras varios candidatos e innumerables audiciones , Brian Johnson, británico de Dunston, de profesión reparador de parabrisas y techos de coches, y cantante de un grupo llamado Geordie les convence. Había audicionado sin éxito para grupos como Rainbow o Uriah Heep pero ahora llegaba su momento. Malcolm le comunicó que era el elegido y Brian lo celebró con su hermano y una botella entera de whisky.

The following travel of John Antic moved him to 01-03-1980 in Freemantle, close to Perth, Australian locality of which he was native Scott. After the funerals and to ponder very much on the continuity of the band, they decide to do it and the search of a new vocalist begins. After several candidates and innumerable auditions, Brian Johnson, Briton of Dunston, of profession repairer of windshield and roofs of cars, and singer of a group called Geordie convinces them. He was trying to work without success for groups as Rainbow or Uriah Heep but now him hour was coming. Malcolm communicated to him that it was the elected one and Brian celebrated it with its brother and an entire bottle of whisky.

Aunque los comienzos no fueron fáciles, con conciertos no muy brillantes en Holanda y en Gran Bretaña en Donnington, llegó Back in Black, disco homenaje al compañero fallecido y el éxito fue rotundo. No cabía esperar menos de la considerada obra maestra de este grupo.

Although the beginnings were not easy, with not-very-bright concerts in Holland and Great Britain in Donnington, arrived Back in Black, tribute to the deceased partner and the success was overwhelming. It could not expect less from this masterpiece.

En el siguiente viaje John se vió en Berlín en 1990. El muro había caído hacía unos meses y las tiendas de discos de la ciudad habían agotado las existencias de los discos de ACDC, concretamente de Back In Black. Se podría decir que el primer acto de libertad de los alemanes del este fue comprar la música prohibida de la que extraoficialmente habían oído hablar. La modernidad se abrió paso a través del telón de acero al ritmo de los acordes de Hell´s Bells y llegó hasta Moscú, en uno de los conciertos más multitudinarios del grupo.

In the next trip John was in Berlin in 1990. The wall had fallen a few months ago and the record shops of the city had sold the stocks of ACDC´s works, specifically Back in Black. One could say that the first act of freedom of the East Germans was to buy the forbidden music they had heard unofficially. Modernity was opened through the iron curtain to the rhythm of the chords of Hell's Bells and arrived to Moscow, in one of the most multitudinous concerts of the group.

La banda estaba no obstante afrontando problemas. Malcolm Young estaba en proceso de superación de los problemas de alcoholismo que le aquejaban y se reincorporaba a la banda. Por otra parte, uno de los criminales en serie más peligrosos de EEUU, Richard Ramírez dejaba en uno de los escenarios del crimen una gorra con el logo AC/DC, estableciendo la prensa una relación más que forzada con el grupo y su canción "Night Prowler" (merodeador nocturno), lo cual les granjeó bastante mala fama durante un tiempo en uno de sus principales mercados. Sin embargo, en septiembre salió otro de los grandes discos de la banda, "The Razors Edge" y el Thunderstruck rodaba de nuevo.

The band was confronting nevertheless problems. Malcolm Young was in process of overcoming of the problems of alcoholism that were bothering him and was rejoining to the band. On the other hand, one of the criminals more dangerous in USA, Richard Ramírez left in one of the stages of the crime a cap with the logo AC/DC, establishing the press a relation more than forced with the group and its song "Night Prowler". This fact gave quite bad reputation to them during a time in one of its main markets. Nevertheless, in September went out one of the big works of the band, "The Razors Edge" and the Thunderstruck was rolling again.

 

Tras la vuelta de John de su viaje astral, el doctor le comunicó que sus constantes vitales se habían visto de nuevo muy alteradas. El ritmo cardiaco había subido mucho en determinados momentos y posteriormente había bajado a niveles peligrosos. Es como si al inicio del viaje el cuerpo hubiera llegado al límite de su capacidad y, una vez iniciado el mismo, descendiera a un estado casi de letargo en espera a que el viaje acabase. Esto era peligroso para la salud de John y el doctor se lo comunicó. Había documentado todo lo necesario para su estudio y no era conveniente realizar más viajes. Suministraría a John la medicación necesaria para evitar problemas. John no obstante insistió en hacer un último intento, ya que era consciente de que si hacía el último, el que seguramente le llevaría a la época actual, descubriría el sentido de todo aquello.

After the return of John from him travel, the doctor informed him that his vital signs were very altered during it. The heart rate had risen much at certain times and had subsequently dropped to dangerous levels. It is as if at the beginning of the journey the body would have reached the limit of its capacity and, once begun, descend into a state almost of lethargy waiting for the travel had stopped. This was dangerous to the health of John and the doctor informed him. He had documented everything he need for him study and was not convenient to make travel more. He would give to John the medication he need to avoid problems. John however insisted to make one last attempt, since it was aware that if he did the latter, which would surely lead to the present time, discover the meaning of all that.

En este viaje, John se desplazó a Sidney en 2014. En un hospital, los familiares de Malcolm esperaban la hora de visita. Malcolm no reconoció a Angus al principio, pero afortunadamente luego sí; aunque estaba en buenas manos, el proceso degenerativo había hecho mucho daño y la familia asistía preocupada a los acontecimientos. El problema en realidad lo habían detectado años antes,  durante la gira de 2009, y aunque había aguantado e incluso llegó a participar en el proceso creativo del nuevo disco, en 2014 se hizo imposible continuar. la noticia fue devastadora. Aunque técnicamente su sobrino Stevie Young podía sustituirle, la parte más creativa del grupo había desaparecido y este quedaba seriamente tocado.

Por otra parte, el batería Phil Rudd atravesaba por problemas con la justicia. Más problemas para el grupo.

In this trip, John moved Sidney in 2014. In a hospital, Malcolm's relatives were waiting for the hour of visit. Malcolm did not recognize Angus at first, but fortunately then yes; although it was in good hands, the degenerative process had hurt very much and the family was present worried at the events. The problem in fact they was detected years earlier, during the tour of 2009, and although Malcolm ressisted and even took part in the creative process of the new disc, in 2014 it became impossible to continue. The news was devastating. Although technically him nephew Stevie Young could replace him, the most creative part of the group had disappeared and the band was seriously damaged.

 

John regresó con sensación de frustración. Tenía claro que todo había acabado pero no porque había pasado. Empezó a escuchar ACDC y algunos temas le empezaron a gustar, pero más por saber la historia de la banda y haber sido casi partícipe en tiempo real de sus avatares que por otra cosa. Pasaron varios meses y no se produjeron más viajes, aunque tuvo que acudir a algunos congresos  científicos a explicar sus vivencias. Al final todo se olvidó y la rutina vital se restableció.

John returned with frustration sensation. He was sure that everything had finished but not because it had happened. He began listening to ACDC and some songs began liking him, but more for knowing the history of the band and having been almost participant in real-time of its ups and downs than for another thing. They spent several months and travels did not take place any more, although he had to come to some scientific congresses to explain its experiences. In the end everything was forgotten and the vital routine was restored.

A comienzos de 2015 sin embargo, esa rutina se alteró. Su esposa le comunicó una tarde de febrero  que esperaba un hijo. Llevaban tiempo buscándolo y estaban preocupados porque no lo conseguían por lo que la felicidad fue máxima. A la hora de buscar nombre la esposa le dijo que le gustaría que se llamara Malcolm como el abuelo materno. A John le pareció genial.

However, that routine was altered at the beginning of 2015. His wife informed him an afternoon of February that she was pregnant. They had time looking for a child and were concerned because they not succeeded. Therefore the happiness was maximum. When they were looking for name, the wife told him that she would like the child was called Malcolm as the grandfather. To John it seemed great.

 

Nota del autor.- Sirva esta narración como modestísimo homenaje a la persona de Malcolm Young y en general a los ACDC, grupo que me ha acompañado desde la infancia y que me ha hecho pasar ratos increíbles. Pese al brillo de Angus, siempre me había parecido que la estructura rítmica de los temas era la verdadera clave del éxito y eso se le debe a Malcolm. Su ausencia no me hace ser muy optimista respecto al futuro, pero el próximo domingo iré a disfrutar de ellos.  

Note author.-serve this narrative as a modest tribute to the person of Malcolm Young and in general to ACDC, group that has accompanied me since childhood and that has made me spend incredible time. Despite the brightness of Angus, always had seemed to me that the rhythmic structure of the songs was the true key to success and that is due to Malcolm. La siguiente historia comenzó en realidad hace unos años. Fue un domingo por la noche tarde, en el que algo aburrido pero sin sueño, acabé viendo "Cuarto Milenio"; ya sabéis ese programa de misterio y curiosidades que presenta el gran Iker Jiménez. Estaban hablando de los viajes astrales.  Una persona está durmiendo y en el momento de coger el sueño tiene la sensación de que abandona su cuerpo, flota por la habitación , se ve a sí misma durmiendo y es capaz de desplazarse a otros lugares y momentos.  Eso es un viaje astral.

Un caso curioso es el de Ed Morell. Este preso de San Quintín, cuyas experiencias inspiraron el libro de Jack London "El vagabundo de las Estrellas", podía evadirse de su confinamiento mediante este tipo de desdoblamientos. Era capaz de salir de su cuerpo, verse a sí mismo en la celda de castigo, atravesar las paredes de hormigón y abandonar la prisión. Nadie sabe a ciencia cierta porque pasa esto; ¿tenemos un alma que deja nuestro cuerpo? ¿simplemente es nuestro cerebro el que se pone a funcionar de un modo desconocido?. Quién sabe.
The following story actually began a few years ago. It was a Sunday late at night, I was something boring but without sleep and I ended up watching "Cuarto Milenio";a spanish tvprogram of mystery and curiosities that presents the great Iker Jimenez. They were talking about astral projection. A person is sleeping and has the feeling that leaves its body, fleet by the room , sees itself sleeping and is able to move to other places and times. This is an astral voyage. A curious case is Ed Morell´s. This prisoner of San Quintin, whose experiences inspired the book of Jack London's "The Star Rover", was able to escape from his confinement that way. He was able to get out of him body, see himself lying in the punishment cell, pass through the walls of concrete and leave this way the prison. Nobody knows why or how it happens; do we have a soul that leaves our body? is it our brain operating in a unknown way?. Who knows.
 

El caso es que comentando en esos días estos temas en la oficina en la que trabajaba, me hablaron del extraño caso de un tipo canadiense de origen serbio que tenía varias vivencias de este tipo. Tenía una experiencias sensoriales curiosas cuando dormía, experiencias todas ellas con un denominador común: la familia australiana de origen escocés Young de la que en su vida había oído hablar. John Antic se llamaba este viajero. Era un joven recientemente casado, trabajador de una aseguradora, amante del jazz y del blues y del hockey sobre hielo.
Talking about these topics in my office, a mate spoke to me about the strange case of a Canadian- serbian guy that liveseveral experiences of this type. He had curious sensory experiences when he was sleeping, experiences all of them with a common denominator: the Australian Scottish family Young. He never had heard to speak about this family. The traveller was called John Antic an he was a young man recently married, he worked on an insurance company, he likes jazz and blues and ice hockey too.

En la primera de estas experiencias, se encontró que había viajado a Glasgow en el año 1955, a una casa destartalada, en un barrio bastante pobre. Acababa de nacer un diminuto bebé al que sus padres decidieron poner de nombre Angus. Era el octavo de la familia y ante la grave situación económica que se planteaba, los padres habían decidido seguir el camino de otros muchos escoceses y emigrar a la entonces tierra prometida de Australia. John también observó los problemas en el colegio del muchacho, su pasión por los grandes bluesman, etc. Cuando volvió o despertó, lo que fuera,  se encontró cansado y tremendamente sorprendido. Le contó a su mujer lo que el creía que era un sueño. 
At the beginning, in the first voyage,  he had travelled to Glasgow in 1955, to a ramshackle house, in a very poor neighborhood. A tiny baby was born and the parents chose to name him Angus. It was the eighth children of the family and due to economic problems, the parents had decided to follow the path of other many Scots and emigrate to the promised land of Australia. John also noted the problems that the boy had in the school, his passion for the great bluesman, etc. When he returned, or woke up, whatever, he found tired and extremely surprised. Told his wife what he thought was a dream.


En el siguiente sueño, John se encontró siguiendo al muchacho anterior en la Australia a finales de los 60. Aquel adolescente que apenas sobrepasaba el metro cincuenta, acababa de comprar una guitarra Gibson SG y jugaba a imitar a su ídolo Jimmy Hendrix en su cuarto. Había dejado los estudios y había encontrado un trabajo en una imprenta. Tanto a él como a su hermano Malcolm, les había dado por la música por influencia directa de sus hermanos mayores Alex y George que se dedicaban a ello. Hay que decir que con bastante éxito en el caso de George y su grupo, los Easybets.  Malcolm decidió montar un grupo y ante la falta de miembros estables, decidió contar con su hermano pequeño. Angus, que por cierto había aprendido sus primeros acordes con Malcolm, estuvo encantado con la idea.
In the next dream, John was found following that aussie boy in Australia in the late 60s. That teenage that barely exceeded the five-foot,  just bought a Gibson SG guitar and played to imitate one of his idol Jimmy Hendrix in him room. He had left his studies and had found a job in a printing press. Both to him and his brother Malcolm loves the music by direct influence of his older brothers Alex and George who were dedicated to this. Quite successfully in the case of George and his group, the Easybets. Malcolm decided to assemble a group and in the absence of better members, he decided to invite his little brother to join with him. Angus, who had learned their first chords with Malcolm, was delighted with the idea.

Estuvieron varias semanas pensando el nombre y al final aceptaron la sugerencia de su hermana Margaret de poner el letrero AC/DC que había visto en su máquina de coser, ya que transmitía la idea de potencia y electricidad que Malcolm quería para la formación. El muchacho era tan joven y de comportamiento tan infantil que su hermana le sugirió que podía vestirse de colegial en sus actuaciones. Se llevaba eso de ir disfrazado pero no querían gastar dinero, por lo que  aquel traje le vino bien. La nochevieja de 1973 les sorprendió tocando en un local de Sidney. La fortuna les fue algo esquiva hasta que por fin encontraron el salto de calidad definitivo. Se lo dio un vocalista juerguista y algo pendenciero, que había incluso estado en la cárcel, pero que tenía el carisma especial que ellos buscaban y que el anterior cantante no tenía. Era también de origen escocés como ellos. Se llamaba Bon Scott, y en él los Young vieron su alter ego. Estaba predestinado a ser una estrella del rock en toda la magnitud del termino, con todos sus excesos y con el tributo de la muerte prematura.

There were several weeks thinking about the band´s name, and ultimately they agreed to the suggestion of his sister Margaret. She had seen in her sewing machine AC/DC and she thought it could be a good name. Malcolm thought it too, the name has the power and electricity that Malcolm were looking for. As Angus was so young and has a childlike behavior, his sister suggested that she could dress up schoolboy in his performances. They also didn't want to spend money, so that costume came well. The new year's Eve 1973 surprised them playing in a place in Sydney. Fortune was somewhat elusive until they finally found the definitive qualitative leap. It was gave for a vocalist binge and something tough, that had even been in jail, but that had the charisma special that they sought and that the former singer not had. It was also of Scottish origin as them. Bon Scott was him name, and the Young saw his alter ego in him. He was predestined to become a star of the rock in the full extent of the term, with all its excesses and premature death tribute.

Cuando John volvió de este segundo viaje, ya casi más asustado que sorprendido, se puso a indagar sobre ACDC. Por supuesto que sabía que era un grupo de rock, bastante longevo y bastante exitoso. También había oído Back In Black, y Highway to Hell, pero ahí se acababan los conocimientos sobre esta banda. Es por eso que alucinó cuando vio que todo lo que el había vivido en esos supuestos sueños había ocurrido de verdad. Además, viendo  fotos comprobó que las caras que veía eran las verdaderas. Decidió ponerse en manos de especialistas, y tras una peregrinación interminable por incrédulos médicos, que pensaban que simplemente soñaba utilizando información consciente o inconsciente, dio con un neurólogo que decidió estudiar su caso. En una habitación destinada al estudio de trastornos del sueño inició sus experimentos con John:
When John returned from this second voyage, already almost more frightened that surprised, he began to inquire about ACDC. El público sentado y en silencio, no muy típico de las actuaciones rock, disfrutó al ritmo del mencionado "Highway to Hell" las últimas evoluciones sobre un escenario de Scott.

The powerful sleeping pills made effect. Electrodes began to record brain activity of John and began his third voyage. He went to Spain, 1979, a country with a newly released democracy, trying to upgrade the television. Performance of ACDC in the Spanish musical show "Aplauso". The audience seated and silent, not very typical of rock performances, enjoyed the rhythm of the mentioned "Highway to Hell" the latest developments on a stage of Scott.

El doctor observaba algo inquieto las alteraciones que los monitores indicaban. El área cerebral que regula la función visual estaba disociada de la llamada zona de circunvalación angular que regula la cognición espacial. El pulso estaba alterado y era peligroso continuar, por lo que el doctor decidió hacerle volver. Mientras tanto, la mente de John se encontraba en Londres, junto a un vehículo aparcado en una zona residencial con una persona dentro fallecida. No pudo ver más detalles porque había despertado, pero lo que John había visto fue a Bon Scott  muerto en un coche tras aspirar su propio vómito tras una noche de borrachera. Era febrero de 1980 y el grupo había viajado a Londres para grabar nuevas canciones.  Malcolm tuvo que trasladar la noticia a los padres de Bon, para que no se enterasen por la prensa. Tras el entierro y una vez meditada la continuidad del grupo, decidieron volver con un nuevo disco y nuevo vocalista. En los corazones de los Young habían nacido las canciones que integrarían "Back in Black", el disco más exitoso de la banda y uno de los grandes hitos en la historia del rock. Sería el segundo disco más vendido de la historia tras Thriller de Michael Jackson.
The doctor was observing something anxious the alterations that the monitors were indicating. It was February, 1980 and the group had traveled to London to record new songs. Malcolm had to move the news to the Bon parents, so that they were not finding out for the press. After the burial and as soon as the continuity of the group was pondered, they decided to return with a new disc and new vocalist. In the hearts of Youngs there had been born the songs that there would integrate "Back in Black", the most successful disc of the band and one of the big milestones in the history of the rock. It would be the second most sold record of the history after Michael Jackson´s Thriller.

John, intrigado y conmovido con la historia, le pidió al doctor que le ayudase a profundizar en estas experiencias. Sentía que todo aquello que le pasaba era por alguna razón y debía llegar al final. Lo que pasó a partir de aquí lo veremos la semana que viene. 
John, intrigued and moved to the story, asked the doctor to help him dive into these experiences. He felt that everything that was happening was for some reason and he should reach the end. What happened from here we will see the coming week.

El otro día volvía yo al Monpassa, ya sabéis,  aquella cafetería-librería ubicada en pleno barrio de las letras de Madrid, a la que suelo ir. El lugar estaba últimamente más concurrido, supongo que porque se estaba beneficiando del flujo de gente que llegaba de visitar el convento de las Trinitarias en el que se habían encontrado los restos de Cervantes. El fenómeno mediático había hecho efecto y un buen número de turistas, siguiendo las indicaciones de sus guías de bolsillo, acababan deambulando por las callejuelas y costanillas buscando un lugar en el que sentarse y tomarse algo refrescante. Era lo mejor que podían hacer tras recibir un buen baño de ese sol amable que tenemos en  mayo en Madrid.  Probablemente sea este el mejor mes para disfrutar de esta ciudad.

The other day I was returning to the Monpassa, you already know, the cafeteria and bookstore located in the barrio de las Letras in Madrid, which I tend to go. The place was more busy lately, I suppose it was benefiting from the flow of people coming to visit the convent of the Trinitarian in which it had been found the remains of Cervantes. It was the best they could do after receiving a good bathroom of that sun friendly that we have in May in Madrid. This is probably the best month to enjoy this city.
 

Llegué con tiempo y, tras saludar a los propietarios Patxi y Carmen y pedir mi primera cerveza Alhambra, empecé a buscar por las estanterías algo que leer. Había libros y revistas de todas clases, y me decidí por una que en mi juventud o casi infancia quizá, siempre me había gustado. La compraba mi padre y la disfrutábamos los dos.  Se llamaba y se llama MUY INTERESANTE y muchos de sus artículos realmente lo eran y comprobé que lo seguían siendo.

There were books and magazines of all kinds, and I decided on one that in my youth or childhood almost, I always liked it. My father bought it and we enjoyed. It was called and it is called MUY INTERESANTE (very interesting) and many of its articles really were interesting and I saw this characteristic remains.
 

En esa revista en su día descubrí por ejemplo que estaban estudiando incorporar en los coches una especie de bolsa de aire en el volante que amortiguase el golpe del conductor, vamos, el airbag que hoy en día damos por hecho en todos los coches, también  que todos llevaríamos unos mini-ordenadores en el bolsillo que además serían teléfonos,  o por ejemplo que algo llamado internet nos permitiría estar a todos conectados a nivel mundial, pudiendo incluso hacer la compra o pagar impuestos sin salir de casa. También votar en las elecciones, sin urnas, papeletas ni colegios electorales, y si bien esto último todavía no se ha cumplido, lo veremos seguro.

Yes, it is. According to a study of an American university or something like that, people who listen to alternative music, rock or heavy are more intelligent than the rest. They had analyzed a group of bright students musical tastes and the majority of them preferred our style of music. The myth as well who love the genre are violent, depressive, uneducated and dark beings was dismantling that way,  to highlight that we are some bright guys.
 

 

- ¿Qué vosotros sois brillantes?..Nooo! dijo Carlos que acababa de llegar y en realidad no sabía de que estábamos hablando. - ¡Aquí la única brillante es Nuri! ¡Mirad que pibón!. Ella sonrió ya más que acostumbrada a los piropos en general y a los de Carlos en particular.

- La muestra se hizo entre más de 1000 chavales de entre 13 y 18 años con altas capacidades intelectuales . La mayoría de ellos preferían el rock como música y la utilizaban como instrumento para liberar tensiones. Además de lo anterior,  se hizo una medición objetiva de inteligencia a gente que prefería este tipo de música y los resultados fueron superiores a la media, sobretodo en lo que se refiere a la capacidad de abstracción.  El estudio lo hizo la Universidad de Warwick, en el Reino Unido (Ahí Rafa se percató de su error al imputar el estudio a una universidad americana)  y presentó sus resultados en la 18ª Conferencia Anual de la Asociación para la Ciencia Psicológica-.
- The sample was made between more than 1000 kids between 13 and 18 years with high intellectual capacities . Nadie lo tenía muy claro y tras las búsqueda de Carlos en internet, creo que tampoco lo entendimos del todo, por lo que quizá inconscientemente refutamos esa teoría de que éramos muy listos. Por lo visto, es una capacidad que permite extraer de la información que recibimos de un determinado hecho la parte fundamental, en última instancia esquemas lógicos y matemáticos. Eso nos permite ligarlo con otros hechos distintos en su configuración pero iguales en su fundamento lógico. De esta manera se pueden establecer esquemas que relacionan ambos fenómenos. Si no lo entendéis es que tampoco sois heavies, o sea listos.
Nobody was very clear and after the online search of Carlos, I think that either we understood it at all, so perhaps unconsciously we refute the theory that we were very clever. Apparently, it is a capacity that allows you to extract the information that we receive from a particular fact the main part, ultimately logical and mathematical diagrams. That allows us to link it with other facts different in its configuration, but equal in their rational fundaments. In this way you can set diagrams that relate both phenomena. If you do not understand it is that you are neither heavies, that is, clever.  

 

Tras estas explicaciones, y con nuestros "supercerebros" cansados, decidimos que como los resultados del estudio nos gustaban no le íbamos a dar más vueltas.
After these explanations, and with our "superbrains" tired, we decided that as we liked the results of the study we would not think more about it.

 

 Me quedé pensando en lo de liberar tensiones. A mí me pasa con esta música. Llego a casa después de un día horrible en el trabajo, con el tráfico o lo que sea, me siento, o mejor me tumbo en la cama y con la luz apagada me pongo los auriculares y al rato me encuentro mucho mejor. Podría parecer que lo mejor para relajarse sería  escuchar Chill Out, el sonido del mar o cosas así, pero al menos yo, prefiero el estímulo que el rock me proporciona. Es quizá parecido a la sensación que te produce una buena sesión de ejercicio físico tras un duro día de trabajo de oficina o de estudio. No es exactamente igual pero es parecido. Te libera, te relaja y te descansa.
I kept thinking about in the release tension. This happens to me with this music. I come home after a horrible day at work, with traffic or whatever, I feel, or better I lie in bed with the lights off put my headphones and while I find much better. It might seem that the best to relax would be to listen to Chill Out, the sound of the sea or things, but at least I, I prefer the stimulus that the rock provides me. It is perhaps similar to the feeling that it gives you a good session of physical exercise after a hard day's work of office or study. It is not exactly the same but similar. It liberates you, relaxes you and rests you.

Y es que por lo visto, escuchar música a un volumen alto hace que el oído interno desencadene un estímulo para que el cerebro libere endorfinas y produzca sensaciones placenteras. Eso es lo que por ejemplo hace conmigo la relación de temas que arriba he ligado. Es una muestra, podrían ser muchos más. Va con los días.  
And apparently, listening to music at high volume makes the inner ear to trigger a stimulus so that the brain release endorphins and produce pleasurable sensations. That is what makes for example with me the relationship of subjects above I've linked. It is a sample, it could be many more. It goes with the days.

Y llegó de nuevo Rossi, tras la conversación telefónica, y abriendo un par de Budweiser comenzó a contarme su historia:

- Fue en un autocine en New Jersey donde ví Easy Rider. Yo acababa de regresar de Vietnam, y si bien de las heridas sólo me quedaban algunas secuelas, psicológicamente me hallaba destruido, como le ocurría a mucha de la gente que fue allí. La película, sin embargo me sirvió de mucho. Los personajes de esa película intentan vivir un sueño de libertad que no es aceptado por la sociedad, son libres, han nacido para ser libres y eso provoca rechazo a la sociedad en general básicamente por miedo a romper sus ataduras. 
- It was at a drive-in cinema in New Jersey where I saw Easy Rider. I had just returned from Vietnam, and while the wounds I had only some sequels, I was psychologically destroyed, as happened to many of the people who was there. The film, however served me well. The characters of this film try to live a dream of freedom that is not accepted by society, they are free, they are born to be free and that causes rejection of society in general mainly for fear of breaking the tying.

Que tuviera un sentido ya que había conseguido sobrevivir a la guerra. -After The dialogue in the film between Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper expressing all this, I decided, i was 24 years old, that I wanted my life to be like that. I wanted my life had a sense after I had managed to survive the war. Some years later life, like everyone, put me in my place, but I do not regret any of those decisions I made.

 - Mientras yo andaba dándole vueltas a estos temas a raíz de la película, en Manhattan dos veinteañeros de clase alta y heredero uno de ellos de un imperio empresarial, recogían los frutos de un anuncio en prensa puesto unos meses atrás, un anuncio que decía más o menos así: "Dos jóvenes con mucho dinero pero ninguna idea, buscan proyectos de negocio en los que emplear su capital". Como uno de ellos decía, eran "dos jóvenes con más dinero que cerebro".
- While I was thinking about these issues because of the film, in Manhattan two twenty upper class men, one of them heir of a business empire, collected the fruits of an advertisement in the press published a few months ago, an ad similar to this: "Two young men with lots of money but no idea, seeking business projects to use their capital." As one of them said, were "two young men with more money than brains."

 A ese anuncio respondieron, entre otros muchos, dos jóvenes de entornos totalmente diferentes, dos hippies, uno que trabajaba en una discográfica y otro que intentaba sobrevivir organizando conciertos. Tenían como proyecto montar un estudio de grabación para los talentos de la zona como Dylan o Hendrix, pero concibieron además la idea de organizar un concierto para promocionar y sacar fondos para ese estudio. La idea parecía buena.  Era una época de efervescencia musical tremenda en la que surgían grupos por doquier, las bandas sacaban hasta tres discos por año... en fin el negocio parecía bien pensado.
this ad was responded, among many others, by two young men from completely different environments, two hippies, one of them worker of a record company and another trying to survive by organizing concerts. They had as Project, to set up a recording studio for the talents of the area as Dylan or Hendrix, but they also conceived the idea of organizing a concert to promote and raise funds for the study. The idea seemed good. It was a time of tremendous musical effervescence with emerging groups everywhere, some of the bands with three albums a year ... well the business seemed well thought out.

Para llevar a cabo todo aquello montaron entre los cuatro una empresa llamada Woodstock Ventures Inc. Así nació el concierto de Woodstock, que si bien pasó así a la posteridad, en realidad se celebró en Bethel en el condado de Sullivan en NY. Sus cálculos más optimistas decían que podían conseguir que vinieran 10.000 personas. Casi 500.000 acudieron al evento. Entre ellos dos amigos y yo.-
To accomplish all, they created a company called Woodstock Ventures Inc. Thus, the Woodstock concert was born, which went well although posterity, actually held in Bethel (Sullivan County-NY). His most optimistic estimates say they could get 10,000 people to come. Nearly 500,000 attended the event. Including two friends and me.-

- Empezó nublado aquel 15 de agosto de 1969. Salimos temprano en el Chevrolet Camaro de Lou. Recogimos a Artie y  camino al concierto íbamos ya escuchando y cantando a nuestras bandas favoritas de entonces, la Creedence con su "Fortunate Son", y un grupo nuevo inglés que a Lou le gustaba mucho. Lo formaban dos antiguos miembros de los Yardbirds. Se hacían llamar Led Zeppelin, porque alguien (según la leyenda un miembro de The Who) le había dicho a su guitarrista, Jimmy Page, que iban a estrellarse como un Zeppelin de plomo (como un Led Zeppelin tal y como se pronunciaría en inglés). El nombre gustó a todos y se quedó así. Bueno no gustó a todos. Dice la leyenda que una de las descendientes del barón Von Zeppelin no quedó contenta de que los que describió como unos "monos chillones" usaran su nombre de familia. ¡Faltaría más! 
- He started cloudy that 15 August 1969. We left early in the Lou´s new Chevrolet Camaro. We picked up Artie, who was waiting for us, and during the travel to the concert we were already listening and singing our favorite bands at the time, the Creedence with "Fortunate Son" and a new english group that Lou loved so much. Two former members of the Yardbirds was in it. They called Led Zeppelin, because someone (according to the legend, a member of The Who) had told it guitarist, Jimmy Page, that they were going to crash like a lead Zeppelin . All of them liked the name and the band was named that way. Well not everyone loves that name. Legend say that one of the descendants of Baron von Zeppelin hated the idea that some "howler monkeys", as she described the band, use her family name as a band´s name. Of course not!

 -A mí me sonaban algo extraños, no se por qué, pero el caso es que en aquel coche, y camino de aquél concierto me empezaron a gustar y después a encantar. En estas estábamos cuando tras casi una  hora parados, vimos como la gente dejaba los coches en la cuneta o en cualquier lado y empezaban a andar. Era imposible avanzar más. - La gente que vivía por allí miraba a la carretera con la incredulidad de quién está acostumbrado a ver más vacas que coches. ¡Yo creo que algunos tenían incluso las escopetas cargadas detrás de sus puertas no fuera a ser que los melenudos ocasionaran problemas!
It sounded rather strange to me, I don´t know why, but the fact is that in that car, and that way I began to like them and after that to love them. We were almost an hour stopped, we watched as people left the car in the ditch or elsewhere and began to walk. It was impossible to go further by car. - People who lived there looked to the road as they saw something unbelievable. It seemed that they were used to see more cows than cars in that place most of the days . I think some of them were prepared, even with loaded shotguns behind their doors, to the case of that hairy people causes problems

-Mientras caminábamos les fui contando la película de Easy Rider y les propuse que nos fuéramos al oeste juntos al finalizar el verano a lo que no me dijeron que no pero no vi entusiasmo. Íbamos algo drogados y no le di importancia, ya volvería al tema más tarde, aunque sabía que iba a ser complicado convencerles. Su vida si estaba encauzada.
While we were walking, I was telling them about the film Easy Rider and I proposed them to leave the city at the end of the summer and going to the west. They didn´t say no but I didn´t see  enthusiasm in them. We were somewhat drugged and I thought I would return to the issue later, but I knew it would be difficult to convince tem . Their  life was channeled. Mine not.

- Por fin llegamos a las inmediaciones del recinto siguiendo a la marea humana y vimos como la gente se colaba por alambradas rotas entre risas y gritos. Luego nos enteraríamos de que los organizadores estuvieron pagando las pérdidas del concierto hasta 1980 y no nos extrañó ya que de todos los asistentes calculo que pagarían como mucho la mitad.
- At last we arrived near the enclosure where the concert took place, following the human tide and watched as people came in through broken fences, laughing and shouting. A lot of years after, we knew that the organizers were paying concert losses until 1980. The fact did not surprise us because of all participants i think  they would pay half of them as much.

-El peyote, la marihuana y LSD estaban por todas partes, haciendo que mucha gente yaciera inmóvil y otros muchos danzaran sin sentido viviendo sus propias realidades. Nosotros no íbamos tampoco muy bien, pero salvo Artie por culpa de la marihuana, todavía no habíamos perdido del todo el control. El LSD te permite unos viajes alucinantes. Duran varias horas y se llega incluso a situaciones de sinestesia en la que los sentidos se confunden, los colores suenan, los sonidos huelen . El corazón se acelera al máximo y la euforia te invade. Bajo sus efectos puedes hacer cualquier cosa, y eso es muy peligroso. Por eso no es nada recomendable.
-The Peyote, marijuana and LSD were everywhere, making many people laying motionless and many  dancing senseless, living their own realities. We also were not going well, but except Artie because of marijuana, we still had not lost all control. LSD offers some amazing trips. It last several hours and it even produce synesthesia situations, in which the senses are confused, sound colors, sounds smell. The heart races to the maximum and euphoria invades you. Under the effects of that, you can do anything, and that is very dangerous. So it's not advisable at all.

-Al principio nos pusimos donde pudimos, un lugar en el que la visibilidad era casi nula pero se oía bien. Luego, ya por la noche y con Artie recuperado conseguimos ubicarnos mejor con la ayuda de un alemán que andaba por allí con dos o tres chicas amigas suyas a las que intentamos también hacer amigas nuestras, cosa que a pesar del LSD y la paciencia no sucedió. ¡El amor libre no era para nosotros tan libre después de todo!.  
At first we got where we could, a place where the visibility was almost nil but sounded good. Then, at night when Artie was recovered, we had got better position with the help of a German and two or three friends of him, girls to which we also try to be friends of them, but despite the LSD and patience,it did not happen .Free love was not for us so free after all !.

-Fue un auténtico placer ver bajo la lluvia a Joan Baez  embarazada y escuchar como, con su deliciosa voz,  contaba que a su marido se lo había llevado la policía aprovechando el revuelo mediático causado por la llegada del hombre a la luna unos días antes y lo habían metido en una prisión federal. Su delito, negarse a ser alistado para ir  a la guerra. A su lado salió Jeffrey Shurtleff y juntos dedicaron sarcásticamente la primera canción al gobernador de California, Mr. Ronald Reagan -
It was a real pleasure to see, under the rain, and listen to pregnant Joan Baez with her delightful voice.  She told how the police, taking advantage of the media phenomenon of the arrival to the moon a few days before, had put her husband in  federal prison. His crime, refusing to be enlisted to go to war. Beside he came together Jeffrey Shurtleff and theysarcastically dedicated the first song to the governor of California, Mr. Ronald Reagan -

Por la tarde del día siguiente entró Santana, con las étnicas percusiones de su "Soul Sacrifice", y por la noche, tras la tormenta que afectó a Grateful Dead, y de la que nos refugiamos en una especie de tienda de campaña del alemán, ya de paso intentando un nuevo avance hacía sus amigas, llegaron nuestros favoritos. La Creedence Clearwater Revival. ¡John Fogerty estaba a unos metros de nosotros! Lógicamente nos olvidamos de las mujeres y buscamos sitio lo más cerca posible de nuestros ídolos.

A las dos y media de la madrugada entró Janis Joplin y su Kozmic Blues Band. Parecía estar algo recuperada de sus problemas depresivos, pero sólo lo parecía. Continuaban sus problemas con el alcohol y la heroína. Tenía entonces 26 años y aunque aparentaba bastantes más nadie podía pensar que le quedase poco más de un año de vida. Tras preocuparse por como estábamos los del público y criticar algo a la organización por nuestro hacinamiento, comenzó a cantar con su inimitable voz, esa voz que sus tormentos interiores contribuyeron a construir, y que ella aprendió a modular, o quizá a domesticar, para nuestro deleite y el de generaciones futuras. La vida la exprimió al máximo para sacar el delicioso néctar de su voz. En Woodstock hizo lo que siempre decía que hacía con su público, hacer el amor con él y después volver sola a casa. Allí buscaría cobijo en lo de siempre. 
At two-thirty in the morning came Janis Joplin and her Kozmic Blues Band. She seemed somewhat recovered from their depressive problems, but she only seemed. The life squeezed down to take the delicious but bitter and broken nectar of her voice. El domingo por la tarde salió Joe Cocker y nos dejó para el recuerdo su versión del tema "With a Little Help from my Friends". Tema sensacional sacado de la inagotable maravillosa chistera de The Beatles. Quizá la de Cocker sea la mejor versión, mejor incluso que la original. Es un gran mérito dado que el tema ha tenido hasta una versión de los teleñecos.
The Sunday afternoon came Joe Cocker and left us to remember his version of "With a Little Help from my Friends". Sensational song that cames out of the wonderful inexhaustible Beatles´s hat. Mybe the Cocker version is the best, even better than the original. It is a great achievement given that the song has been sung even for the Muppets.

Para finalizar, Jimmy Hendrix. Ya la gente había comenzado a irse aunque debían quedar unas 150.000 personas todavía, exhaustas y no muy atentas a la música, pensando ya más en la vuelta. El alemán y sus chicas nos habían ya dejado y yo también propuse largarnos tras la versión ensordecedora y distorsionada del himno "Star Spanggled Banner" de Hendrix (supuestamente buscando reflejar el efecto de la guerra sobre nuestro país). Menos mal que no me hicieron caso y nos quedamos. Nos quedamos y nunca me arrepentí. Poco más de un año más tarde también nos dejaba este genio y me arrepentí aún menos de haberme quedado. Si en su día  fue  capaz  de impresionar a Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck o al mismísimo Paul McCartney ¡como no me iba a impresionar a mí!.
Finally, Jimmy Hendrix. At that point, people had begun to leave but had left some 150,000 people still,  exhausted and not very attentive to the music, thinking longer in the travel to return home. German guy and her girls had already left us and I also proposed to get out after the deafening and distorted version of the hymn "Star Spanggled Banner" by Hendrix (supposedly seeking to reflect the effect of war on our country). Luckily they did not listen to me and we stayed there. We were there and never regretted it. Just over a year later, this genius left us too, and then, I regretted even less have stayed there. If at some point  he was able to impress Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck or Paul McCartney how wasn´t he be able to impress me !.

-Después de esto vuelta a casa y tras una semana, estaba en un coche alquilado camino de San Francisco con 500 dólares y un libro de inversiones en Bolsa que alguien se había olvidado en el maletero. En el futuro me vino bien.  Otra semana más tarde, los asesinatos de Sharon Tate y los Labianca a manos de los miembros de  "la familia" de Charles Manson. Ahí acabó para mí, y creo que para muchos el movimiento hippie, el  flowerpower y todo lo que representaba. Bueno..bien pensado no acabó todo. La música permaneció y a mí me acompañará siempre. 

-After that,  back home and after a week, I was in a rented car road San Francisco with $ 500 and a book of share investments that someone had forgotten in the trunk. In the future me fine. Another week later, the murders of Sharon Tate and Labianca, Charles Manson´s family murders. The hippie movement, the flowerpower and all it represented was over for me and i think for many people. Well..not all was over. The music remained and I will always be accompanied by it.

A mí, gracias a Rossi, también me acompañaría esa música a partir de entonces. Terminamos las terceras cervezas y tras despedirme de Rossi y su hijo dejé la tienda. Intentaría volver otro día antes de regresar a Madrid. No me fue posible y no he sabido más de ellos. Tengo pendiente esa visita.    

To me, thanks to Rossi, that music also will go with me thereafter. We finished the beers and after saying goodbye to Rossi and his son, I left the store. I woud try again to be back another day before returning to Madrid. It was not possible and I have not heard more of them. I have that visit pending.
